Maximum Battery Cycles?

Apple or someone has thrown out the number 1000 cycles.

It depends on which model of MacBook, but I don't believe there is a "maximum" only a point at which failures are expected. The earliest MacBooks batteries were expected to last about 300 cycles.

i have a late 2009 macbook unibody, now m battery is on 950 cycles...i need to replace it, but do u know if i can put a battery from the new models ?

Apple recommends you have a service technician at either an Apple retail store or Apple authorized service provider replace the battery for that model. It is not one you can easily do yourself, nor can you order the battery part from Apple. You can find a store or service provider using this web page.

I found out where the number 1000 came from. Apple says it depends on the year and model.

Mine is at 1078, the original battery. Says the status is normal, 4.17v in each cell. It isnt warped or anything so Im not planning on replacing it. It will play an iTunes movie with one full charge, guess when it wont last two hours with heavy use then I will get a new one.......lol, but prolly will get a new lappy before that happens.

Edit...oh btw the "full charge" is now 4084mAh.....cant remember what new was, someone found that out for me a year ago or so...think it was 5000?

That is a very good battery that has been properly used. Keep it going till it lets you know it is time to replace. It will start to quit with what appears to be adequate charge or checking the battery state will indicate poor and needs replacement. 🙂

Mine is late 2008 unibody 13". I am on my second battery and currently 460 cycles still giving me 100% and normal (much better than the original one). I discharge completely most times and charge fully. There is debate about this, but it works for me.
