Can anyone help?
I have an iMac, Mountain Lion, Latest iTunes and I am having problems getting iTunes to recognise an new iPod Shuffle.
I have restarted the iMac, tried the iPod on and off, tries all the USB ports, etc - no luck.
Any ideas?
iPod shuffle, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
Are the connections on each end of the connection nice and snug as is seen in this article?
iPod shuffle (4th generation): Not seen in iTunes

Thanks for your reply - the connection is good, the charge light of the iPod is coming on.
Since I posted I have tried the iPod on a Macbook Pro - no recognition.
Any ideas?

And you are using the cable that was included with the Shuffle correct? Have you tried resetting the Shuffle with it still connected to either Mac?

I have reset the iPod using the instructions on here (and yours)
I am also using the cable that came with the device i.e. USB to headphone socket.
No luck so far,

Does the iPod Shuffle appear under System Profiler -> USB?
System Profiler is located within the Applications -> Utilties folder.

@planb77. I am having the same problem. My old Shuffle is not recognized by iTunes (current version). I am using the correct cable and the connection is tight and the device indicates it is charging.
I check the System USB information and it shows it connected.
Now what?

Was at the Apple store this morning and the problem was the iPod lead. Sods Law!
