im not sure whether the requirtments are suitable for upgrading to snow leopard. its been very sluggish to startup for the last 3-4 months now...

    If it were mine I would upgrade to Snow Leopard but with a clean install - full backup of whole disk to external with Carbon Copy Cloner - erase disk - don't use the installer to import anything except network settings - the more historic things you import the more likely it will be that you import something less than perfect.
