i have a 3gs which is unlocked, when i put my sim it, it reads it but comes up with 'no service' i know its read it beucase my voice mails come up but it wont come up with my messages, contacts or anything and it always says no service, can anyone help?

Contacts and messages have nothing to do with the SIM.
The iPhone does not store information on the SIM.
Install a working SIM.
yeah but the sime works, i put the sim into my other phone and it works. when i out it into my iphone it reads it and knows its there but i doesn't get any service. how can i fix that?
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).
Before restoring, I would try a different SIM just to rule that out.
It is possible the device has a hardware issue.
i reset the network settings but its still coming up with no servce. it did the same with aother sim?
If it is doing the same thing with multiple SIMs, try a restore.
If that fails to correct, there is most likely a hardware issue with the device.
SIM WONT READ PLEASE HELP
