Same issue here. Looks like a widespread problem.
I have the same problem: www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGMCHFDEV2A. It seems to be related to being connect do the internet. If you turn off Bluetooth and WiFi, try opening the book. It opens for me when I am not connected, but opens for a second then immediately closes if I am connected..
Was hoping the 3.0.1 update would help, but no luck.
Good catch with the networking settings. I tried turning off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi individually and together and it didn't help. Also tried turning off "online content" in the iBooks section of Settings.
Putting my iPhone (4S) into airplane mode allowed me to read book on the second attempt to open it. (On the first attempt the book closed immediately.) Not all books are affected, so far it's two O'Reilly ePub books imported into iBooks (via "open in" from Dropbox), but other O'Reilly books work fine.
Nice. I'm pretty much the same: O'Relly ePubs imported via Dropbox or Safari (Chrome still doesn't let you download books!). And it's not all of them.
I have just Sync Bookmarks off and everything seems to work fine. Thanks for that pointer!
I had two O'Reilly books that I added to iBooks through Dropbox (Dropbox -> Apps -> Oreilly -> Bookname -> Bookname.epub -> Open In ... -> iBooks). The first time I opened the book it worked fine. The second time I opened the book it would open, start rendering something, then immediately close.
Once I turned Airplane Mode on, the books opened as expected. Turning Airplane Mode off restored the books-don't-open behaviour. Turning off Sync Bookmarks remedied the behaviour (I could read the book), turning Sync Bookmarks back on restored the bad behaviour.
Same here. It happens only with an O'Reilly title "Getting started with D3". Turning off Sync Bookmarks lets me open the book but as soon as I turn it on again the same problem reappears. I just posted the issue on the O'Reilly Get Satisfaction website http://support.oreilly.com/oreilly/topics/ibooks_opens_starts_rendering_and_then _closes_immediately?rfm=1
(via the Get Satisfaction thread) Seems that the issue is related to Dropbox syncing. Deleting the book and tranferring it via iTunes instead solves the problem.
