1st Generation nano not recognised on new Windows 7 laptop

works on my old Windows XP laptop. Just want to charge it up and use it on the new Laptop, it's only a 2GB nano, but suits me fine. Don't really want to have to change it unless absolutely necessary. Any thoughts please?

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue? Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your Mac? Have you tried a different USB cable?

What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the Mac?

Has this iPod ever worked on this Mac or is this the first time you have time you have tried connecting it?

Have you carefully worked through each and every single suggestion in this Apple support document?

Well, I noticed you had suggested checking the cable, so I swapped it for another and it is charging just now, so that is progress.

However, I have now run the iPod Updater and chose Restore which cleared the iPod, I then uninstalled it all, inserted the installation disk and ran the installer again.

When I double-click the iTunes desktop shortcut, I now get an iTunes message

The file "iTunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes", so I clicked OK. Nothing happens.

frustrating.
