How do you change settings back to synching only by cable (without using wifi) once it was accidently selected and then crashed?

I accidently checked sync by WiFi. It was dismal and failed repeatedly with restarts and now with direct usb cable doesn't recognize my i-phone 5 with io-6 (all software is updated). It tells me to restore facotory settings. Without losing my profile is there another way to remove wifi synching in I-tunes for this device (i-phone 5)
