Searching from 10.6.8 on a file share on Win server 2008

We use a Win 2008 Server. When trying to do a search from a Mac running 10.6.8 the search takes a very long time. I have ruled out the network, by hooking up a PC laptop to the same ethernet cord running the exact same search. On the PC the search completed in 3 minutes, finding 7 files. On the Mac it ran for 26 minutes and only found 3 files.

Can anyone help me figure out what to look at next?
