I did a back up and restore on iTunes with my iPhone but when the restore was complete the info did not appear in my phone, how can I get that info that it backed up

When the restore was done, did iTunes ask to restore as new iphone or restore from backup? Right click on your Device on itunes and click on Rstore from Backup...

What info specifically? Media (music, videos), apps, contacts, e-mail messages, for example, are NOT part of the backup.

The backup contains things like app data (documents, settings, etc), phone settings, the camera roll, text messages, recent calls list, e-mail account settings, etc.

restored from back up...which I did...and nothing returned...I had earlier been at apple store having my iphone updated as the current software was not allowing me to download or use many apps

nothing returned...I am especially upset about the fact that I have lost all my calendar inputs as I have many events and appointments on there and I have nothing. It was basically my life organiser! Any ideas...it must be somewhere on the computer or itunes..I just cant find it and dont know how to look for it.

It's in whatever application you were syncing it with... iTunes is just a go-between. If you were not syncing it with something, then it's gone.

Apple support told me to back up in itunes...thats it..the syncing occurred automatically. what do you mean by "application"...PC?

    Calendars

To sync calendars with your computer, choose "Sync Calendars" or "Sync iCal Calendars."

    You can sync calendars with:

    • Microsoft Outlook 2003, Microsoft Outlook 2007, Microsoft Office 2010 (Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7)
    • iCal (Mac OS X)
    • Microsoft Entourage 2004, Microsoft Entourage 2008
Note: If using Microsoft Entourage, use Microsoft Entourage 2008 12.1.2 or later if syncing with Mac OS X v10.6 or later. If you would like to sync data on your Mac with Entourage, enable syncing between Entourage and Address Book.
    • Microsoft Outlook 2011 for Mac
Note: If using Microsoft Outlook 2011 for Mac to sync calendars you must update to Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac Service Pack 1 or later.

    Notes:

    • When syncing calendars, you can sync all calendars or sync specific calendars.
    • You can limit the data that is synced to only events that have occurred in the last 30 days. The option can be changed to any number of days.
