When I have my iphone 5 close to my Macbook Pro, my Mac shuts down until I move the phone away from it. I presume the technology in the phone is interrupting the technology of the Mac but it shouldn't do that in my opinion. My friend has the same model Macbook Pro and Iphone5 and it happens to her as well. Just wondering if anyone else is having the same issue or has any tips.

Never heard of this. Take both to an Apple store and demonstrate this issue.
The same exact thing happens to my Macbook Pro also! If i put my iPhone 5 on my Macbook, to the left of the trackpad, my computer shuts down until I take it off. It's very weird. I have no idea why this happens. Please let me know if you find out anything.
Not weird at all. that is where the magnetic sensor/system is that tells the notebook to power off the screen and put it into sleep mode when the lid is closed. Placing something there that can trigger that sensor will do the same thing, as you have found out.
