Ipod Classic 80GB not recognized by iTunes.

iTunes 10.7.0.21

iPod Classic 80 Gb

Recently updated iTunes. When I attempted to connect my iPod to download some new music my computer did not recognize my iPod. I tried updating the drivers, reinstalling iTunes and putting the iPod in disk mode. After reinstalling iTunes for the third time and playing with the drivers my iPod froze and when it was updating my data was erased. Luckely I had manually backed my iPod up onto my desktop. Now after reformatting my iPod and setting it back to the factory settings I still am unable to connect my iPod with iTunes. I am also unable to copy my data back onto my iPod. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

It did (before wipe) and does appear in the Device Manager. At one point it was using a default windows hard disk driver. I have used multiple USB ports/cables on several different computers. I have been able to connect other iPod/iPad devices to the same computers with success. ITunes during this time crashed my computer with several BSOD.

Formatted my iPod and have it working with iTunes again. Now, how can I get the files I copied off through Windows Explorer back on my iPod? I have songs I placed on my iPod from several old computers that are not all on my current home desktop. I have the files on an external hard drive currently. Can I just copy and paste them onto my iPod outside of iTunes?
