Turn off turn-by-turn directions?

Is it possible to turn off the Turn-by-turn directions in Apple Maps? I want to see where I am going with more depth than the "overview" feature, similar to how Google Maps had it. I prefer to review all the turns and directions beforehand and then navigate myself rather than blindly trusting the turn by turn without verification.

It is totally a preference thing, turn by turn still comes in very handy when I am driving. Knowing Apple, I doubt this is a possibility but maybe I overlooked something?

Thanks

Turn-by-turn is off by default in the iPad version of the app, so the functionality to do step-by-step with the map active is there. I, too, have been trying to figure out if it can be enabled on the iPhone. Turn-by-turn's too distracting while I'm driving and I prefer to just review the overview before I leave. But step-by-step without the map doesn't really help as I like to be able to see how the roads/turns/etc. relate to each other with each step.

Thank you randers, however I like having the visual reference along with the step by step directions. Like in Google Maps, you could have the list or you it would just show you the whole route and by hitting the next button it would zoom to the next direction change and so on until the destination... THAT is how I like my maps to work
