Mac Mini storage durability: hard disk drive vs. SSD

Given the problems that occur with the AppleTV if the computer goes to sleep, I want to buy a new Mac Mini with 256 GB SSD. understand that the HDD will suffer from spinning all the time and break down. Would the SSD make a considerable difference in terms of durability?

Mac mini, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
