EXS in Mainstage

My own EXS instruments are on an external hardrive.

An alias from that map I copied in the map sampler instruments in the Logic application support map

Now i can use these EXS's in Logic.

In the beginning Mainstage saw that EXS's too.

But not anymore.

So, Logic Pro see's them, Mainstage not.

Anybody?

Thanx

Hi

MS 2.2 has "issues" with the use of Aliases to Sampler Instrument folders.

If I remember correctly, originally MS 2.2 would not find ANY Aliases, whilst now it will find them but only one Folder deep (ie NOT if you have an Alias to a Folder which also has Aliases in it).

Best solution is to make hard copies of all the EXS instrument files, or maybe use Symbolic Links instead.

Seems strange that Logic can deal with them OK but MS apparently cannot: maybe the Devs should talk to each other?

First thanks for your responce.

I the past I know for sure MS recognised the alias.

I think it went wrong when i bought the retina Macbook Pro en updated to 2.2.2

(Apple recomended this updated for the new Macbook Pro)

Making hard copies to the MS project is a solution, if you know what sounds

you need. When i am programming MS and searching for a sound that is pretty annoying.

I don't understand what you mean with Symbolic links

Hi

Yep, the issue started with MS 2.2, and was partially fixed with later updates.

I did not mean make hard copies into the "project" or "Concert" folder:

Make hard copies of ALL your exs instrument files and place them in <User>:Library:Application Support:Logic:Sampler Instruments (rather than using Aliases). They will all be available to the EXS within MS and within Logic.

Note that the User Library is hidden by default in Lion and Mountain Lion: use the Finder:Go menu whilst holding down Option to get to the User Library

That would be a solution, but as you can see I have the new Macbook pro with

256Gb flash memory.

My personal EXS files are over 200Gb big, so that's no option for me.

I think i have to wait for a Mainstage update where they solve this problem,

and choose the EXS instruments i need in Logic Pro and then make a copy to the

sampler instruments in my concert map.

Thanks CCT!!

Hi

You are misunderstanding:

EXS sounds consist of 2 types of file: the .exs Sampler Instrument file, plus the samples that are needed for that instrument.

When storing these on an external (or other) harddrive, you need to put the .exs (Instrument) files, or Aliases that point to them, inside either Library:Application Support:Logic:Sampler Instruments (this is where the Factory Library is stored), or put them in <USer>:Library:Application Support:Logic:Sampler Instruments

You DO NOT need to move the samples themselves, ONLY the Instrument Files (xxxxx.exs).
