firewire not recognized when using Migration Assistant

When attempting to transfer data from an Early 2008 MacBook Pro(15") to a new 13" Macook Pro with a Firewire, I am not given the option to use Firewire and the transfer indicates that the time with WiFi would take 23 hours. I have the Firewire plugged into both computers and I have followed the directions, restarted the old computer while holding the "T" key, but for some reason the new compter does not give me the option to transfer with the Firewire. Only Wifi. Any thoughts?
