Wifi Connectivity while in clamshell

My new MBA, when in clamshell mode, will not connect to my wifi. If open up the laptop and run it in dual screen, it will run at dial up speed. If I open it up and unhook it from everything, using it like a laptop, it runs perfectly. This is all while sitting on the same desk. The computer is litterally moving a total of 10" from position to position. Anyone had any trouble like this? I know that clamshell wifi reception was bad on the older MBA but this is the newest mid-2012 model. I was under the impression it was fixed.

I have a Macbook Air as well. I just purchased a vertical dock for it to sit up in while in clamshell mode. My wifi works perfect while the computer is open, however soon as I close it an put it in the dock the wifi will no longer work. The wifi indicator at the top right of the screen has full bars, and when I run a diagnostic on the wifi connection it states everything is fine. This seems to be a software issue. I am trying to figure out what the point of having clam shell mode is if wifi doesn't work. Obviously it is not an issue with the antenna due to the wifi signal being received. I am using a Macbook air I purchased brand new in 2013, a ASUS monitor, and bluetooth keyboard and trackpad. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
