why did my music stop syncing to my iPhone 4s?

All of a suddend this week most of my music disappeared from my phone. Now, when I look at my settings when the phone is connected to iTunes, it shows all of the correct music and playlists check, but it doesn't sync them to my phone. Never had this problem before...
