Ipod and mp3 player does it work on the apple?

What are the difference between mp3 player and ipod, can mp3 player play, and download music onto my apple mac mini/use for itunes? Or is a apple ipod go just to the mac brand? Can i use other mp3 players on the mac mini/itunes/library to downloald music Will it work at all?

The iPod is a music player that can play MP3s and a variety of other formats. The iPod is designed to interface with iTunes and the iTunes music store. Most other generic MP3 players will work on a Mac but directly connect to iTunes or download from iTMS. For instance my wife has a little 512mb LG MP3 player which I can drag and drop complete folders or individual music tracks to within a Finder window.There is a list here of players compatible with OSX and iTunes: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93548
