Can't input text on iphone 5

Hi all -

New iPhone 5 user - upgrading from iPhone 4. In simply trying to send a text message, when I hit the button for a new text, a new text window pops up, and I'm able to enter the name of the person I want to text. But then I can't select the text box to start typing my message. It won't shift the cursor down to the text box. The only work around I've found is to choose the 'insert photo' button. Once I do that, it pops up the photo selector button, and then I can hit cancel and back on the text screen the cursor is then in the message box.

This is extremely frustrating. Anyone have an answer? Thanks.

I am having the same issue on my iPhone 4. It was working fine yesterday, but then this happened today.

Go to Settings>Messages and make sure Show Subject Field is set to "Off".

I already checked that before, it was not the issue. I did, however, click the camera icon and take a pic, then deleted it when it was inserted into the text box. The flashing icon remained, and then it showed up in texts after that in different strings. Not sure why, but that cleared up the problem.

It's seems to be a Software issue where sometimes clicking on the entry box would not respond but when you slide it up you will be able to start writing and see the Keyboard...it happened to me on my iPhone4 and tried it on my iphone5 also same thing.

1. Hard Reboot : Hold down Power & Home button till iphone shuts down completely and turn on by itself let go when you see the apple logo on screen.

if that doesn't work

2. BackUp & Restore.

i usually backup or restore from my Guest account has itunes will download a fresh new iOS from the apple server.

I am having the same issue. Hard Reset is the only thing that fixed this! At first I thought it was the screen but the exact same spot will register a "touch" on other applications.

Is this a bug from software? Any long term solutions?

Same issue here. Hard reset fixed it, but got a feeling that's a short term solution as mentioned above...

This issue was raised in October - surely Apple should have a response/fix to an issue like this by now already?

I had the same problem. Someone mentions that if subject field is turned on, that this may be the problem so I checked, it was off so I turned it on just to see what happens and it worked! I now have a meaningless box saying 'Subject' above the 'text message' button, but it works!

You need to go Settings>Message>Show Subject Field 'on'
