Since no longer possible to publish web easily is there any real adavantge in retaining it on my Mac.

iWeb publishes easily using the built in FTP...

Of course there is and it is more than easy to publish to another host using iWeb - it was not only MobileMe that you could publish to - there are also ftp options where you can publish to another host and also to a local folder, so yes keep it.
It is more than easy to publish elsewhere using iWeb.
