I'm Having the exact same problem. I have a 5 minute timeline with a few compound clips from a FCPX 10.0.5 project which I updated to work with 10.0.6 As soon as it rendered there were crazy purple flashes that appeared randomly throughout the timeline. At first I thought it was a similar issue to the common green frame flashes, but even after rerendering the clips, they still appeard (although at different points in the timeline). I tried reimporting the media into the timeline, manually adding the effects again but the same issue occured. I'm using 23.98 footage from a Canon 5d mkII with Magic Bullet Looks effects. The flashes don't only appear on clips with Looks but I have yet to take out those effects and try. It's very frustrating though, as even if Looks is the issue, I have spent countless hours making this video and it worked fine with 10.0.5 - and now I can't even open the projects in older versions because they've been updated. If anyone finds a solution pls let me know as I'm desperate to get this video to a client!

Ah. Sending directly to Compressor does work. However one has to be cautious that if there's another MBL 2 of the same serial # on the QMaster network, it will not render. There is a small warning window specifying the Mac computer name that has the same serial # of Looks that is not so obvious to most user. But nevertheless it does work! It appears that the background rendering is just a temp thing and upon exporting it as MOV, the white flash show up w/ the MOV file. However, sending it to compressor appears to be a direct PRJ rendering and bypasses FCP'x background rendering cache. Thanks goodness for your insight as I was about to go back to 10.0.5, which I do not want to do. Can live w/ the annoying flickering bug during the edit but it's good to know that there's workaround to have error free MOV master. Will proceed w/ 10.0.6. It's simply so much more productive.

Red Giant claims the MBL render problem (as well as other 3rd party effect problems) which occured after the release of
FCPX 10.0.6 was caused by Apple and will not be fixed until Apple releases a fix. Here is a copy of the email I received from Red Giant yesterday:

Hello Ron,

Unfortunately, we do not have a timeframe of when the render issue in Magic Bullet Looks will be corrected, we are also very patiently awaiting an update from Apple on this issue. Our engineers have looked in to any possible scenario to implementing a fix on our end, however unfortunately, this issue is not coming from Magic Bullet Looks as what was previously presumed, it's actually a post-render issue and it will require an update from Apple. We've also found that many other 3rd party plug-ins are running in to this same problem. As we learn more, we will continue to post new information on our blog or on our Twitter and Facebook. I'm sorry for this inconvenience.

My apologies for not being able to do more for you on this issue.

Thank you,
