A month or so ago a security update was issued by Apple for Snow Leopard; title of the update is "Security update 2012-004."
Part of this update was a change to Apple mail to version 4.6
Did you do this update? What version of Mail are you currently using?
Hi, Im using version Mail 4.5. I did download the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 then Security Update 2012-004. But still can't open mail. Still got error messages.
See if this knowledge base article helps
Hi Austin, I did follow that instructions, but still unsuccessful. Thank you.
Hmm-mm, the problem you are having was actually caused by the update itself, call it a glitch, if you will. It can be a bit of a headache to straighten out, unfortunately. My understanding is that if your mail program had been moved from your Applications folder to somewhere else on your computer, such as the Dock or another folder other than the Applications folder, the update could not find it, so it could not be updated, but yet the old mail App is somehow erased (except for the icon) Bottom line -- you're left without a mail Application. Here's a link to one of many threads that deals with this problem, pay attention to WZZZ's advice.
