Icons missing in New dialog

I'm trying to create some loops to add to a video and found that when I go to File:New and click on New Project, Magic GarageBand or iPhone Ringtone, there are no icons in the window on the left. I reinstalled the software even though it said the certificate is now expired. I had '09 installed before and it worked fine. I can't remember if I've played with '11 since I installed it - I don't use it very frequently (obviously).

Any ideas on this? Why aren't I getting those icons? (podcast, loop, etc.) And more importantly, how do I fix it?
