    Those synced from a computer no, you will need to re-connect to your computer, de-select them and re-sync. Those imported on the iPad via the camera connection kit can be deleted directly on the iPad

    To be more clear. I am flying after a photo shoot sorting, tagging and deleting photos, and sections of video. Can the new iPads import photos directly from SDXC cards or a USB stick, without having it tethered to another computer or camera?

     

    My iPad 3 would not allow this, and I could not find a third party app to allow this.

    You can use the camera connection kit to copy photos to the iPad's Photos app, and it supports SDXC cards - this page says :

    SDXC (supported only when not formatted as ExFAT)

    As long as the card has a DCIM directory off its root with the photos and videos underneath it with filenames exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus extension then they should be recognised and be able to be copied to the Photos app. Photos and videos that are imported via the kit can be deleted directly in the iPad's Photos app

    This presents a problem since some of my cameras format the card in Ex-FAT. Others will accept cards pre-formatted MS DOS-FAT

    You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.

     

    Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).

     

    Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

    I get a "not enough power to supply this device error" with the latest iPad firmware.
