How To Configure OpenReach Modem To Work With Time Capsule??

Hi

My current setup is my Time Capsule connected to my BT HomeHub 3 and OpenReach Modem, with an Airport Express to Extend my Network. I've got two networks running, 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz. How do I configure the Time Capsule to work with just the OpenReach Modem so that I can get rid of the BT HomeHub 3?

Thanks

Baz

Yes.. I didn't realise you needed pppoe but that post should give you the info you need..

Go for it!!

You can just remove the HomeHub and put the TC in its place.

What OS do you use on the computer? The instructions are for a v5 utility which I must say is a lot easier than v6.

Up to Lion you have v5 available.

If you are on ML and don't have access to a Mac with lower numbered OS or even windows computer with airport utility.. then I can give instructions for loading the above into ML.. it will work but the installer cannot.

Hi

If I follow that link, will I have to make any adjustments to my Airport Express or should it carry on working as before?

Thanks

Baz

Without knowing your current setup .. hard to say.. I would take it the TC is currently setup in bridge.. if you do not change the wireless name or other settings it should just continue to work.

But don't let that bend you out of shape.. Resetting the Express is not hard.. post any issue you have and Bob can help you!!!

Hi

Ok, so I made the change. Before I'd updated, Id got a warning message to say that setting up via PPoE would reduce my security.

That is weird.. PPPoE is nothing to do with security.. it is a wan connection method that if required cannot be ignored or bypassed.. I see nothing there to do with security.. but your wireless might be an issue.

Also when ever network I connect to one has the padlock symbol and the other doesnt, see attached pic. Whats that all about?

The padlock shows security on the wifi is turned on... if there is no padlock the security is off. At least that is my understanding.. normally a padlock on means the settings are fixed .. but for wireless I think it just indicates security.

I think you are seeing a restricted amount of info..

If you have wireless security set in the TC there is only one password to cover both 2.4ghz and 5ghz. Certainly I have never seen it use different security.. from what I am seeing your 2.4ghz is secured and 5ghz is not.. but that might just be because it is selected.. or could it be that your connected via the express?? I am not 100% sure..

Try linking to the 2.4ghz instead of 5ghz and see what happens..

Also turn off your homehub to get rid of all the extra stuff you have there.

What OS are you running Baz??
