Question about transferring files from a Mac

Hi there!

I want to ask about the new iPad mini (and or the iPad 3) especially with transferring files from a Mac.

I normally just do the "normal" way of transferring files (.doc files, .mp3 files or .mp4 video files) i.e. via the USB port of my Mac. But is there a faster, easier and a wireless way to do it?

Please advice.

Thanks.

Several options available, including a wireless synch (same as plug in synch, but across the wireless network). there are also cloud services such as Drop box and iCloud, and direct transfer apps such as Drop copy. Largely depends on what you want to do.

My third gen iPad has never been plugged into or synched with a computer.

As of iOS 5, you can connect to a computer that is one the same wireless network, using the same AppleID, and synch with iTunes (no cable required). You do have to plug it in once to set this up.

If you do not want to synch at all, you can, but may want to use one or more of the options previously mentioned (chech the app store) to transfer files. Obviously you will also need an app to open and/or edit those files you mentioned.

If you are uploading non itunes music or videos, you may want to sych.

I couldn't find Dropbox on the Mac App Store but i could find Dropcopy in there.

Stupid question: will i need to also install Dropcopy on my iPad 3/iPad mini in order for my files to be transferred?

Yes, it will need to,install it on any machine you wish to use it on.

also, you should spend some time on the Drobbox website to see how it works. You won't find it in the Mac App Store, but can still easily using it on a Mac.

DropCopy will do that, assuming both devices are on the same WiFi network. It is available in both the iOS and Mac app stores. I beleive free versions are available for both, but you may need to purchases to get some functionality. This is a direct ransfer mechanism and doesn't store the files in the cloud.

Just about any system that provides cloud storage, BTW, will be limited unless you purchase additional space.

I have been looking and waiting for a way (or an app) to transfer files wirelessly quick/easy & simple between Apple devices using the same home wifi network.

But does DropCopy have a "limit" as to how big the file is to be transferred?

Not that I am aware of. I've never had an issue due to file size. At least files I have transfered were movies.

Transferring files with iPad to mac is super easy. Connect your iPad to Mac with USB. Then go to your applications folder and start the process of fies transferring. All the photos, video and music you took on your device can be copied from there.

To the contrary, you can read more tips about how to transfer files from iPad to Mac, which is available for iPad mini and new iPad.
