Successfully using Exchange to Sync iPad, iPhone, Gmail (PC) contacts. If I lose my iPhone and contacts were erased I would lose them everywhere! Backup!

I am successfully using Exchange to keep my contacts in sync on my ipad,iPhone and gmail(windows 7). But I think that if I lost my iPhone and someone cleaned out the contacts, then I would also lose the contacts on my Gmail and iPad. How can I do a regular backup of the contacts?

iPhone 4S, iOS 6

Thanks. Yes, I was concerned about an iClod Sync. But I think that it is also possible to BACKUP to iCloud and not Sync.

Apple says that that iCloud backup contains

"Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)

App data"

Which does not tell me if Contacts are in the backup, or not.

The other problem with the backup is that the restore brings everything back, not just contacts (if they were there in the first place)

Thanks. Probably the best way. Though it appears that the Restore will bring everything back, not just contacts. I did locate a product that claims to be able to look into the vackup on Windows or the Mac and only pick a piece for restoration.

My dream solution would be something that runs on my PC into which I can import the gmail export, so that I would have a non-synced, legible copy. (The CSV is not very readable). And then be able, as needed, to export from that application and import back into Gmail. And even have the Gmail export run every night, automatically.
