I have an iPad 1, with iOS 5.1.1 (not iOS 6 because is not supported).
Today the app "Cut the rope" is updated but this update requires iOS 6.
And now, I have the updating notification in App Store, although I can't update the app. Can I remove the badge "1" in App Store icon?

Yes, I have the same problem and I just realized it works Psychologically FOR Apple because if you get tired of seeing these update badges for too long, you're either going to snap (like I probably will 😕 ) or you will update to a new iPad that allows the new iOS 6.
From purely a marketing standpoint, it's really kind of genius, yet simple. Knowing how he was for smart but simple...I'm betting it was one more legacy Steve Jobs left Apple before he passed on. 🙂
