Q: Mac Mini 2012 video blinking out

I just got my 2012 Mac Mini yesterday (mid range model) and have already noticed three instances where the video would blink out for about a half second, and then come right back. This happend twice already when I'm connected to a Apple 23 inch LCD monitor via the included HDMI-DVI adapter and once when I'm connected via HDMI to my Samsung LCD TV. Anyone else noticing this happening on their Mac Minis? Thanks.

Intel said to remove all but one stick of RAM and the problem would go away, but several people have tried that without success so the problem is more serious than Intel believes.

The biggest problem is now Apple's silence on this issue.

Another 2012 Mini owner with this problem.

I use an ATD as my main monitor and it has never had a issue. On my remote monitor (samsung 2443BWX) connected HDMI -> DVI I have had a few blackouts and one gray snow. The gray snow required power cycling of the monitor to clear.

Customer from switzerland here. I'm also running in this problem.

    Mac Mini: Late 2012 (6,2), i7 Quad, 16GB Kingston RAM, 256GB SSD, OS X 10.8.2, ROM

    MM61.0106.B00.

I've connected my 2x DELL 2411 monitors to the mini. Both worked without any problem on the 2009 model. One with a mDP/DVI-Adapter, the other one with a HDMI/DVI-Adapter. Only the second monitor via HDMI is getting random blackouts. I've changed the DVI cable, the HDMI/DVI-Adpater, moved to another DVI-Port on the monitor and also switched the monitor completly. Nothing works.

    Apple, please fix this issue!

    Hi,

sorry, I was little bit confused.

    So, what do you suggest?
Wait for Apple response and then replace with new one?

Because many people here replace with new one and the problem still persist.

Maybe only Martin Naegeli had lucky.

So, guys, keep us in touch with news about flickering and whole situation about new Mac Minis.

I have a 2012 Mac Mini, the Quad Core i7 2.6Ghz with 8Gb of Ram.  It is my 3rd Mac Mini, I have a 2010 model, 2011 model and now the 2012.

I had numerous problems the minute I took it out of the box, the screen flickering, I was having entire blackouts and weird horizontal lines.  The O/S was totally unstable and I could not do any software updates.  Turns out I had a corrupt O/S install.  So stability is fixed, but the flickering screen persists.  I get entire black screens for 1-2 seconds every 20-25 mins, I still have weird little hoizontal flickering lines a few inches long up till half the screen in size and I have had the screen turn into "snow" like when a TV loses transmission.

I have a 65" Sony Bravia tv connected via HDMI.  No problems with the other two Mac Mini's just the 2012.

Should I get the Mac Mini replaced or hold out of a O/S patch???

Just took out 8G of RAM - 10 minutes later, blinky blinky.  I'll be returning this Mini tomorrow and waiting until this issue is fixed.  Then again, I might get silly and build a Hackintosh - we'll see how much time I have on my hands!  Good luck to everyone that sticks it out.

So even Intels "fix" of only run with one stick of RAM doesn't work!

@--A--C--: You're having it happen with the MDP/TB > HDMI adapter too?  Nooooo

Add me to the list of sufferers. I run dual screen, TB > DVI and HDMI > DVI. Only the HDMI connected screen blanks, every hour or so.

Same problem here with my MacMini 2013 i7 2.3 GHz

Screen blacks out or coloured snow appears... Happens with different DVI cables, with HDMI-->DVI adapter and also with the Mini Display Port --> Dual Link DVI Apple Adapter

Apple please investigate and solve this issue! I hope that now HW exchange is required

The post on the intel website explains that it can be fixed.

It's now up to Apple to release a new firmware!

Read the last posts on the Intel forum, and note users still have problems after MFC 1.5 and 1.6.  Here's a quote from one user ->

    "

    Thanks for the information.

is Intel planning on releasing updated bios binaries for their boards soon ?

i have a DZ77BH-55K and for bios version 83 it says   "Memory Reference Code: Based on SA-RC_1.60"  I assume this is higher than 1.5 so it should be fixed in this release ?

(FYI, I still have the issues with that bios version, also release 85)

I got the snow screen this morning on a Mini 2.6 using HDMI -> DVI to a Dell monitor about 5 minutes after bootup running Safari and Cinebench.

Same problem here. Short black screens every few hours when using HDMI -> DVI (and Dell U2410).

Yesterday I bought an mini display port -> DVI adapter and since I used the mDP I didn't see the problem any more. But: TB port should be free for Tb hardware, so Apple please fix!

By the way: when using a HDMI -> HDMI cable I had a relly bad picture quality - not sure if this is a Mac or Dell problem...
