Q: Mac Mini 2012 video blinking out

I just got my 2012 Mac Mini yesterday (mid range model) and have already noticed three instances where the video would blink out for about a half second, and then come right back. This happend twice already when I'm connected to a Apple 23 inch LCD monitor via the included HDMI-DVI adapter and once when I'm connected via HDMI to my Samsung LCD TV. Anyone else noticing this happening on their Mac Minis? Thanks.

Mac mini, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Some folks experienced same issue with Windows, so how likely is that windows drivers for HD4000 are outdated ? If problem can be solved through software fix it might be firmware, not mac osx.

In the past 6 months, Intel claimed to fix the issue in MRC v1.5 and later v1.6, but users were still experiencing the problem contrary to Intel's claim.  Now are we to believe MRC v1.7 will be the cure-all?  I'm not put my money on that horse.

You're forgetting one obvious key point, v1.5 and v1.6 didn't pass through Apples hands. Apples scrutiny will make all the difference, and possibly Intel will then finally learn how to fix the their drivers for PC's.

If Apple's engineering team did not vett Intel's v1.5 and v1.6, that would be an indictment of very bad engineering practice, since, the issue was known in June, and Apple's design team is responsible being aware of any issues with the GPU and for using the latest MFC release.

This deal between Intel and Apple - I just don't get it. Going back to the original MM with the GMA 950 chipset, you'd think these two companies signed a lifelong contract. Apple must have known that the HD 4000 was problematic way before the October 2012 refresh. Heck, just Google "HD 4000" problems and it's not like this is something new.

After 57 pages of this issue, I'm ready to start reading, "Got my new MM and it works great!"

I want to read 57 pages of THOSE posts...........

For those whose Software Updater doesn't show this firmware update, you can also find it here:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1616?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

Please let Apple know if the new firmware has fixed your issues or not

Just downloaded mine.  Keep your fingers crossed that we can go back to "luvn" our mini's. To bad Apple didn't acknowledege an "issue" ... not problem

Not for me, just upgraded. I still have one blink every 6 seconds were my old MM 2011 is perfect. I think this issue will become a nightmare for a lot of customers..

My MM is connected by HDMI to HDMI with Marantz SR7005 AVR and then to a Pioneer Kuro 50" Plasma.

    Thanks Dave,

Just done it and repolaced my HDMI to DVI adapter (I had been working-around with TB to DVI).

All OK except that my desktop reverted to Default. Easily reset, but why?!!!

One blink every six seconds? Doesn't sound at all like the same issue. Mine usually "blinked" at least once 5-10 minutes after waking from sleep or restart. So far no blink.

Did you repair Disk Permissions and reboot afterwards?

If the firmware doesn't work out then don't forget there will still be 10.8.3 coming out down the road.
