Apple can only create an update with whatever information they have at the time. This is why they were asking everyone for data captures. HDMI diagnosing is extremely complicated. So for example; say that your computer was a car and HDMI was a tire, and a lot of peoples tires were going flat. So Apple would know that they have to make a "patch" and determine what size it needs to be to fix the tires. However everyone had different tire sizes and brands on their cars so Apple may release their patch and it would work for those who had a hole at the top of the tire, but for those who had a hole somewhere else that particular patch wouldn't work. So this patch didn't work for you, and now what needs to be done is for Apple to gather more information about the minis that it didn't work for. Eventually the issue will get resolved for all minis but as I said, HDMI is extremely complicated, and unfortunately these kinds of tech issues take time to fully resolve. The more information Apple has to work with regarding the remaining minis, the faster additional updates can be issued. My guess is that they wanted to address as many issues as possible, as quickly as possible, and additional updates will follow.

Hi Hardhittinz, welcome to the community. There is no way for anyone here to be able to predict what will happen for you. There are simply too many variables. Your best chances of having good luck would be to buy directly from an Apple store (or online from apple.com) instead of a authorized retailer. Some retailers still have old stock. The good news is that the return policy has been extended because of the holidays, so you'll have plenty of time to test your mini out. Most people are having good results with the new update. There's no way to know why the update doesn't work for others. Additional updates should be offered for them. I would also ask the Apple store where you buy it at to provide you with a free Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter when you buy your mini. For many people this solved the problem. If by "a lot" you mean the one person with a Magic Mouse that disconnected, they simply reconnected it again.

You're new mini might not need to be updated. It might already be installed straight from Apple.
However, if you do need to update your software there are 3 easy ways to do it; clicking directly on the App store (on the Dock) or by clicking on the Apple menu and choosing Software Update, or by going to System Preferences > System > Software Update.
