Where the heck are my files now?

Documents-to-Go no longer works on my MacBook Pro following recent upgrades. I decided to try Pages and Numbers. I like being able to access the files across my devices, but where the heck are they on my computer? Can I group files in folders anymore? I saved some new files to iCloud, and now I can't see or access the files now on my MacBook unless I open them from within Pages or Numbers programs.

This is very frustrating. I have slowly converted from a Windows user (only use Windows systems at work) to loving every Apple product purchased over the past 5 years. I'm not sure what to do now... tried out Windows 8 in a Best Buy today, and it was great. May have to rethink my Apple switch, or find another app that works & hopefully Apple will not release an update that makes it non-functional (i.e. Documents-to-go)

Thanks. I'll try this; I just don't know if I like multiple companies having access to my documents, even though they are saved with strong passwords. I had thought iCloud was there to solve these problems, especially if purchasing the in-house software (i.e. Page & Numbers).

I don't trust this yet... going to find a different solution, even if back to the stone age with SD cards and external hard drives: http://www.informationweek.com/security/management/5-dropbox-security-warnings-f or-business/240005413
