Just switching from Windows 7 to a new Mac Mini w/ Mountain Lion.
In Windows I'm used to using the Windows Explorer to navigate folders and files manually all the time. What's the equivalent in OS X?
Also, when I had a Mac some years ago the internal hard drive was mounted on my desktop, but I don't see that now?

Finder is equivalent to Explorer, it's on your dock:

You can choose to have the drive icon on the Desktop in Finder menu > Preferences > General > Show these items on the Desktop.
The equivalent to the Windows Explorer in Mac OSX is the Finder. The Finder is the little blue rectangle that has a face on your dock. It is usually on the far left side of the dock. When you click on Finder, a window will come up that probably have your username. From there you can navigate to all of your Pictures, Videos, Music, Documents and Applications.
