Suddenly - iTunes asks to verify billing information

I created an iTunes account years ago using apple gift card (no credit card on file) - its been working perfectly - until all of a sudden - iTunes asks for me to verify my billing information - now - all the information is correct and I am still using the "none" option when it comes to the payment method - but I still can't make any purchases or downloads

What's the deal? Has apple changed its policy around (no credit card ) iTunes account?

Thanks

No. Apple will not force you to put up a credit card if you already used a gift card. The problem is probably with the payment. You see when you buy something that your card credits can't cover, the iTunes store will ask you to verify billing info and put up a credit card to cover the entire amount.
