I live in the UK, will an ipad bought in the USA work in the UK?
I'm visiting New York mid November. If I purchased an ipad mini while i was there, will it work when I get home to the UK?
what would I need to make it work normally?

No matter which version of the iPad Mini that you buy, WiFi is WiFi anywhere in the world, so it will always work with WiFi. All 4G iPads are sold unlocked as well.
You may need to purchase an adapter in order to charge the battery ... I'm not familiar with UK electrical outlets but IIRC, I think that you will need one.
A few things to remember.
Your UK Import limit is £270 in total not per item).
You must declare and pay import duty and VAT on everything you import that takes you over that value.
Failure to do so is an offence and you can be fined if you fail to do so.

Apple may not honour the warranty in the UK for an iPad bought in the USA as stated here:
http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/products/ipad-english-uk.html
Specifically:
"IMPORTANT RESTRICTION FOR iPHONE AND iPAD SERVICE.
Apple may restrict warranty service for iPhone and iPad to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the Apple Product."
Just found the point "may" come into play in if you purchased
a Verizon/Sprint version of iPad Retina (4gen)
and tried to get support outside US

A wifi only should be safe

Whilst I agree totally as regards iPhones warranty
anecdotal evidence indicates that iPads are treated more like Macs by Apple Genius Bars
and cover is more helpful since the "lock issue " with iPhones does not exist
on an iPad .
However the issue may arise and generally the "deal "is not all it seems especially
if customs check you out
The customs limit is £390, the £270 quoted is for people entering via private jet etc. I bought an iPad 2l wiFi/3G last summer in the US, works great in they UK . I seem to remember I was advised to buy the AT&T version by the assistant
Mick
Do you plan to buy wifi +cellular ?
different answer if so
and
power pack WW universal 110-240v 50/60Hz
You just need a UK power cord or pin adapter
Thanks for the info. I would just be buying the Wi-Fi version
You have no worries with the WiFi only version working anywhere that you have WiFi, but do read Peter Gillespie's response about the adapter and power cord.
And.... American published prices do not include sales tax. But most importantly: you chances of walking into a dealer who has a mini iPad available in mid November are a long way from guaranteed.
