I have a 8 gigabyte iPod touch and 2.3 gigabytes available but I can't download a 1.36 gigabyte app

I have a 8 gigabyte IPod touch fourth generation and 2.3 gigabytes available but I still can't download it. Can anybody help

iPod touch, iOS 6, It's a 4th generation

That would likely be because the app must be downloaded then installed. That means more memory is required than what the app will end up using once installed. Think of it like you are downloading a compressed archive. Then you have to dearchive in order to get the application. Finally, you delete the archive. Until that last step your device needs space for the archive and the contents of the archive.
