Q: Remove @me and use @icloud as primary address?

I have an @ me account that is Apple ID and Primary email address. I have recieved the @icloud email but cannot find a way to get rid of the @me. In my apple ID management I see no option of removing the @me. Is this possible? I don't want to use the @me anymore.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

    Just stop using it. You can't get rid of it, but @icloud.com is the same thing. You can sign in with that instead of @me.com in any of the logins, and you can set it in iCloud Mail preferences to be the preferred 'From' address (Preferences>Composing).

    So even if I wanted to create a new account and use the same email name but with @icloud instead, I cant because apple decided to give it to me automatically and then not give me an option to get rid of the old one?

    I don't see what the problem is.  Just pretend you never had a me.com address and only have icloud.com.

    Like I said, just imagine the me.com account doesn't exist.  Never use it.

    Kind of hard when it is my primary address (which can't be changed), and annoying that I have to use it to setup any of my devices and then tell it to ignore the @me and use the @icloud. You are right that it's not that big of a deal, however, it is dissappointing that Apple fails to deliver a simple solution to an annoying problem.

    @icloud.com -> @<anothermailid> -> OK

    @me.com -> @<anothermailid> -> OK

     

    @<anothermailid> -> @me.com -> OK

    @<anothermailid> -> @icloud.com -> NOT OK, with non-delivery receipts, each time telling @icloud.com id does not exist.

     

    The setting in icloud.com is to use the @icloud.com as the default address, though.

    This is because the @icloud.com address hasn't yet been rolled out to all accounts, though it certainly isn't helpful if it's being set as the default.

    And believe, there's also no timelines available on the roll-out.. in terms of when we could check next?

    Apple said 'a few weeks' which is about as unspecific as you can get.

    The answer is NOT, ever, in any situation for any quality product to "just stop using it". Apple, you need to come up with a way to fix it.

    I was wondering why all of a sudden I could choose to send emails from @icloud.com as well as @me.com. That appeared out of nowhere in my iPhone's mail app. I read people are mentioning a mail they woudl have received about this thing happening..? I didn't see any.

     

    Anyways, as Google is your friend... I found this popping up in my search wizzardry:

     

     

    If you go to to the iCloud Mail prefs on the web interface:

     

    https://www.icloud.com/#mail/prefs-addresses

     

    in the composing tab, you will see a setting called "Send From".

     

    There you can choose which default address to use.

     

    @icloud.com was the setting, (which I never visited before). I left it at that, as I assume it is the whole point.

     

    below it is a setting "choose which address you would like to be able to send from"

     

    There you can choose be able to send from both @me.com and @icloud.com (set as default), and you can choose to not send from the non-default address above it...

     

    Bottom line:

    you can always get email on both @me.com and @icloud.com

    +

    you can choose from which one to send as default, and if you want to be able to send from both...

     

    It would be cool to have Apple send a auto reply to people using the one you don't use, so you have only in- and outgoing traffic trough one of them...

     

    Does this solve the issue..?

    one can use the 'vacation' tab - in the same web interface settings as above - to notify people about the default address...

    the action gear icon... get used to the term. That is how you access preferences on the web mail app (is this correct terminology, Apple??)

     

    Oh, yes... People, please stop being so negative with all this poinless posting. This is a support community, not a wingeing and wining community sorry to say so, but sometimes one better says nothing at all...
