Jun 30, 2015 4:50 AM in response to alanfromnewtownardsby robertfromvictoria point,Yet another happy disbeliever converted. All my training screamed no but it was worth a go.
Wish I had found this suggestion before I bought the repair toolkit.

Jul 3, 2015 2:24 PM in response to alanfromnewtownardsby CedarSound,This afternoon a friend brought over his first gen iPad, hoping I could fix it - He unfortunately dropped it and the screen went black but wasn't shattered, .. I could see a flash of the apple symbol just briefly so I knew the screen was still kind-of functioning.. assuming I'd have to replace the screen, I did a quick search and thanks to your advice I had it totally operational in 5 minutes .. Thank you
My technique:
I just placed it upside down in my hand and smacked the back of the case lightly at first and increasingly harder and after about 5 or 6 smacks the apple symbol was bright and it restarted
That saved me a lot of unnecessary work

Jul 8, 2015 12:27 AM in response to alanfromnewtownardsby Sigplan,Great stuff, same thing short drop from desk onto carpet and blank screen. Tried various slaps on the back as suggested but no deal. Then held ipad vertically by one edge and gently bashed the other edge onto the carpet - bingo, screen lit up.

Jul 11, 2015 6:08 AM in response to alanfromnewtownardsby cem251,omg thank you so much for the help also. I don't know if the ipad was dropped but being that it's my sons, it is very possible. It was on last night and my son fell asleep with it on, so I put it on the charger and turned it off. Woke up this morning to a blank blue/black screen but it showed it was on. Did the tapping thing, it turned funky and red and wouldn't clear up, so turned it off. As it turned off the screen was all red. Turned it back on to a blank screen, thought I'd lost it forever, tapped it several times all over the back of the ipad and bam it went back to normal. Thank you so much. My kids both have special needs, so these ipads are their life

Jul 20, 2015 2:48 PM in response to alanfromnewtownardsby Ltidwell,Holy cow I can't believe this actually worked! Ha...I dropped my iPad from about knees-length and the screen went black, when I tried to re-start it it was dark blue. It took quite a few hard smacks, but finally turned back on!

Jul 26, 2015 7:21 AM in response to alanfromnewtownardsby lharvin,This is brilliant! My daughter dropped her iPad last night and was completely distraught. All of her gymnastics videos and pictures as well as her all of her minecraft worlds are on it. She was in tears. I went online to see what I could try and found this thread! Thank you so much! It worked after three short, fast spanks!

Aug 8, 2015 10:40 AM in response to alanfromnewtownardsby CSTTANK31,You are my Hero!!!! I have always taken extra care of my Ipad and today my little sister dropped on its back in protective case an the screen went black. It was the first time it has ever been dropped since I bought it, I almost crapped my pants since my apple care was expired. Came on here for the first time and read this thread and was a bit skeptical but I tried it and it worked!
