Just saved my son's life by following these directions! My 5 year old was playing with the iPad and dropped in on the tile floor. Although, it was in a case the screen turned blue and would not do anything but make sounds. I lightly tapped it on the back like 3 times and the screen re-appeared! Glad this was solved before my husband go home, LOL!!

My son just dropped my iPad on the hard wood floor and I almost cried when I picked it up!  The screen had turned blue and was doing all of these trippy looking blue digital things on the screen.  Googled my issue and was directed to this discussion.  I tried it and lo and behold it worked!!!!  I gave it a few good wacks (thinking the whole time that it doesn't matter what I do to it now because it is toast) and it came on and is working like normal.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!

Awesome. I was massively sceptical, however, after about 10 'taps' my iPad 2 with the blank screen issue sprang back into life! Great advice!

I am embarrassed to say this worked for me also.

last night the iapd stopped displaying BUT  the ipad had sound effects, and i could see that the lock screen was "blacker" then when i tried to turn it on.

after several factory resets, i found the thread.

i took the cover off, made sure the iapd was "ON" and dropped it from about 6 inches onto its side, onto carpet.

sideways didn't do anything but straight down, camera down.... BAM. screen came back to life.

    THIS MAKES NO SENSE.

and don't try it with any other electronic. And this probably means my ipad's days are numbered. but hey.

    it worked.

I have never been an active computer community participant, but I am now. Like many of the posts, my iPad 2 (encased in an Outer-box), took a gentle tumble (2 ft max). It was so minor I didn't think anything of it until I turned it on.  I did not get a black screen as the others did, but a blue screen with many random vertical white lines, some the full screen length, some not. But my iPad was unusable. Hard booted a couple of times, no luck. Found this discussion, and since there were so many replies on the success of Alan's "pat on the back" technique, I figured I had nothing to loose. I turned it on, turned it over, and gave it a gentle spanking, turned it over and it was fixed!

What was a conspicuous consumption, unaffordable and unneeded purchase has now turned into a can't do without it tool in my work life.  So to all of you who took the time to reply, thank you very much and for you Alan I am indebted.

Unbelievable but this worked tapping it on the back and it came back on after my daughter dropped the IPAD.  Thank you all!

Okay, when I saw your suggestion, I thought you were being sarcastic and was going to give you a blunt reply for being a sarcastic so-and-so....

....but after reading further replies, I thought "Why not".

And lo and behold....it actually works!!

I do have to clarify that I had briefly seen a tint of red before it went completely dark, so I tried the "Red screen solution" first (yes, it involves a hammer...and it worked for me before).....then I tried the "Slap it while it's upside down" suggestion. At first it didnt seem succesful, but I gave it a few seconds and there it was, working perfectly.

    Credit and apologies Alan.

Dropped my pad 2 while on holiday in Morocco, devastating ,particularly as lots of things were going wrong with trip and needed to be able to communicate with various people.only time I have cried on holiday!!

came home, tried various technical things, visited apple shop,it was recommended to trade in old for new .i love my little pad and  dreaded setting another one up etc?this morning as a very last resort,I read this blog, not sure how I missed it the first time!would have saved myself weeks of heartache .

Thought, what the heck, nothing to lose,it's going anyway.Well I was like a child at Christmas when my screen came back on.Shame I had cleared stuff out but that is a small price to pay.

thank you so much,I knew for whatever reason the injury was not terminal,it was almost a copycat accident of a previous blogger.

one happy ,happy person this pm.i have had a smile on my face all day. Now,what can I spend that money on???
