Thank you, but dear oh dear oh dear! On a jovial note, why is there so much disbelief when there is abundant testimony to the contrary!!

Hello Alan....I have tried several smacks and now I can faintly see my screen. Would you just keep smacking it!?

Nevermind....I tried a few more smacks and tapping the corners on my desk (had to do this for a green screen once before) shut it off and held both buttons down....finally up and running! Thanks so much!

So, like everyone else on here, I arrived as a skeptic.  My girlfriend had broken her iPad as she slept, because she rolled over and knocked it on the floor.  Trust me, she does the same to me.  Fortunately, I don't need to be slapped on the backside in order to get working again.  But, this message board suggested that THAT was the precise cure for the blue/black screen of death.  So, good thing I'm a percussionist, because I took the iPad, flipped it over as suggested, and spanked it like it was a naughty child... with vigorous love.  At first, the screen when from blue to black.  Uh-oh: This was a step in the wrong direction.  But, we resolved to proceed.  Then, we started getting squiggly digital lines.  Progress!  It was like re-establishing a heartbeat!  Again, we dug out heels in and went for the gold.  So, with the iPad flipped over on my lap, I pretended I was Tito Puente at Madison Square Garden in June of 1968.  One big samba-infused slap later, I pressed the on button.  My girlfriend looked at my face for a reaction.  I simply flipped it over face-up on the table, put my hands in the air for victory, and she screamed a scream I'd never heard her scream before.

    Be a whacker!

Hi to anyone who dropped their iPad and is a disbeliever! Listen to the good advice here on this forum!

I dropped mine yesterday morning (onto carpet, from a night table), and the screen was blue/black and sometimes it flashed.

I tried all the restore and recovery options, and I knew from iTunes when I connected it with my PC that it was still working ok internally, but the darn screen wasn't working at all.

Anyway, after 2 calls to apple, 3 calls to local repair people, i knew i would have to fork out at least $250 for the new model as it didn't look promising. I was so frustrated, so, i did what was recommended on this site and i REALLY  whacked it.(I had gently hit the back yesterday when i first read it, but didn't feel comfortable so I stopped). This time I had nothing to lose, so after 3 minutes of some very hard hits to the back, the screen popped up, I restored it from my iCloud, and all is good again.

    Thank you lucky Whacker guy!!!

    Sorry folks, bad news.

The whacking method didn't work for long. the next day my screen was black/blue, but nothing worked. So i'm likely out the $250 +tax to get it replaced/fixed. It's 5 weeks past the warranty and they won't consider it (note - their warranty is 365 days exactly so if you bought an apple product on Dec. 22, the warranty expires at midnight on the 21st and they won't accept it on the 22nd (I asked).

    Good luck. So frustrated!
