Q: Mac Mini (2012) and Dell U2713HM monitor: which cable for full resolution?

I connect my MBAir (mid 2012) to my U2713 with a DisplayPort cable (DisplayPort to MiniDisplayPort in my case). It worlds just fine. Be sure to get a cable that supports the latest version of the DisplayPort standard. If you are not sure what the latest is and the cable supplier doesn't specify, go to the DisplayPort website.

When you fire the monitor up, you will need to go to the menu on the Dell and modify some of the selections (e.g., the kind of connection) but it should work fine.

DisplayPort is <http://www.displayport.org>. In particular I found the FAQs helpful. Here is one FAQ for you:

Q: Where can I buy a DP 1.2 cable? Most of the cables are certified to DP 1.1a.

A: The DisplayPort version 1.2 standard was designed to utilize the Standard Display cable. We did this intentionally to avoid customer confusion. A DisplayPort cable is a DisplayPort cable; EXCEPT if it a “reduced bit rate” (or RBR) cable, which is typically a 15m cable designed for projector applications, and they only support up to 1080P; OR if it is an active cable, which will not support the new HBR2 rate introduced in the DP 1.2 standard.

So a cable that was tested to meet the DP 1.1a requirments also meets the DP 1.2 requirements.

Lindy in the UK <http://www.lindy.co.uk> sells DP 1.2 cables (this is the relevant standard for the U2713), if that happens to be where you are based.

That looks like it will do the trick Bart. The only hesitation I have is that the latch might make it somewhat difficut to remove the DP end of the cable from the Dell as there might not be enough finger room to do the unlatching.
