iTunes 10.7 and Windows 8

Hi. I installed Windows 8 pro on Saturday night at some point. iTunes was working fine the rest of the night on Saturday and most of the day on Sunday. Then suddenly on Sunday night, every time I opened iTunes it just freezes. I can't click on anything and it won't close. It freezes my entire computer to where I have to shut it down. I was wondering if this is because I have Windows 8 now or if it's just a problem with iTunes? I've tried uninstalling everything Apple from my laptop and then reinstalling but it didn't work. I've tried running in safe mode, tried running iTunes as an administrator, I've tried pretty much everything. Please help me.

Another person was complaining about iTunes not working under Windows8 and you might have to wait until Apple releases an update.

That's what I thought. I've heard that it should be out tomorrow or on the 31st. But who knows I guess. Do you know if there's another program I can sync my iPhone with?

iPhones only sync with iTunes.

In the future, it's a better idea to ensure the programs on your computer that you need are compatible with the new Operating System before updating it.

I didn't think anything of it because my brother has Windows 8 and his iTunes works perfectly fine still. He syncs his iTouch with it and everything.

There's another thread on here with someone else having trouble with iTunes and Windows 8, so you're not alone.

But as I mentioned in the other thread, I installed Windows 8 Pro over my Windows 7 system, and it carried iTunes and everything over without incident. I used iTunes several times from Friday night through Sunday, including syncing it with my iPod Nano (7th) a few times. I don't think I ever tried playing videos, but I listened to music, added new music, and added the new music to iTunes Match successfully.

Maybe I did something wrong when I installed then. I'm pretty sure I didn't... But I guess I'll just wait and see if iTunes 11 comes out or 10.8 or whatever then if it doesn't I'll figure something else out.

I doubt you did anything wrong. A lot can go wrong with anything other than a clean system installation (i.e., wipe the drive and install the OS). I took a chance because my Windows 7 installation was only a few weeks old--I bought an SSD for my boot drive--and I had deliberately not installed too much that I might have to reinstall when Windows 8 came out. And everything that I had installed came over without a hitch.

And there are others having problems too. So it may be some combination of factors: iTunes + Windows 8 + ???. It could audio drivers, video drivers, USB drivers, or some other random piece of hardware or software.

I hope iTunes 11 comes out soon to help you out.

For those of you having problems, I too had it as well. iTunes would freeze up once loaded. I switched the compatibility mode to Windows XP Service Pack 3 and iTunes started working again. This may help until Apple puts out an undated version compatible with Windows 8.

Well I take back part of what I said. If you right click the iTunes icon and choose properties and go to the compatibility tab, you can run the compatibility troubleshooter. If this program start iTunes then most of the functions work but it is still buggy. A bandaid until the problem gets fixed.

So running iTunes as an administrator and doing the compatilbility mode thing almost worked. iTunes will open now without freezing my whole laptop but it will just close if I try to sync my iPhone, change preferances, delete a song, things like that. So really, it still doesn't work. :/

This happend to me to and i thought that i might had done something wrong but it eventually stoped on my windows 8 pc
