Clicking "Finder" in Dock opens up an empty window labeled "window"

Snow Leopard iMac late 2006. Clicking "Finder" in dock opens up a bare, empty window simply labelled "window" (lower case). Checking for Path yields no result. How do I get normal Finder window back when clicking Finder in dock? Opening up HD or other windows from desktop is OK. Quitting and relaunching Finder nor logout or restart changes this. Have made no changes or updates in recent weeks.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), iMac Late 2006, Snow Leopard

Found answer elsewhere on Forums...

in user/Library/Preferences, I deleted com.apple.finder.plist, relaunched Finder, all's ok.
