BBC iPlayer 'RESTARTING' problem???

Does anyone else have the problem of the BBC iPlayer 'restarting' when viewing a catch up program?


Ever since I updated to IOS 6, the latest BBC iPlayer App (ver 2.0) keeps restarting after a varied amount of time making it unusable. I have tried to contact the BBC over this matter but all I receive are electronic responses saying no individual reply to the problem can be given. I've maintained a 'watch' of the BBC iPlayer website but no updated information is given by them, or indeed any admission that there is any problem with their latest software.


All the other TV Apps (ITV Player, 4oD, Demand 5 & Sky Go) ALL work beautifully without any glitches so why can't the BBC do the same with their app? Over 90% of the 'reviewers' (since 19th Sept 2012) of the App at the App Store are unhappy with the software.


If anyone can be of any help it would be greatly appreciated. I have already done a reinstall of the app.

I have this problem too, it's driving me crazy. Just tried to watch something and it restarted every few mins. I have emailed bbc iplayer help but I don't expect a reply. I have the same stats as you , it's happened since update to iOS 6 , never happened before that. I have same ipad and also bt infinity,also in manchester not that I suppose that should make a difference! I would love to get this sorted as I use iplayer all the time. As I said its driving me crazy. The player bar at the bottom goes all out of sync also if I leave it to play through and when it gets to the end it just stays there but continues playing.

I've also tried deleting and reinstalling the iplayer app but it made no difference.

Ok, I've tried everything. I've reinstalled I've updated with the new 6.01, thought that might help, but nothing. I can no longer use the app. Accessing via the website on safari is not that user friendly and doesn't hold the same amount of content.


One thing though, it hasn't so far happened when streaming radio. It may just be that the radio programmes I listen to are short and it's not as frequent a use.


Anyway it's very annoying but as it doesn't seem to be a widespread problem and therefore I don't expect a fix.


If you do manage to sort it out please post again.

Well this problem is baffling but good to see your ok with it Peter and thanks for your comments. The 'vast' majority aren't and before I updated to the latest iPlayer software I was enjoying too! A friend of mine from Huntingdon is having the same problem as me but my son's girlfriend who uses her ipad with our wifi is fine but she never updated to IOS6 or the latest iPlayer upgrade. What I cannot understand is why the BBC have not commented even to say its not their software at fault, if they believe this to be the case. Again I refer to the App Store and iPlayer review section to gain a true reflection of the scale of the problem. Why is it all the other tv channel apps work seamlessly? Difficult one!

I did a Little mre experimentation and saw the same issue on chrome using a win7 laptop. But here s the kicker after a stall, the browser version of iplayer continues at the correct point instead of returning to the start.


I wanted to do some latency testing but I'm not sure where the iplayer streams originate. It's not Bbc.co.uk.


Let you know once I find out more...
