I have several audiobooks I've purchased with itunes. However, I can't download them on my computer. I looked under purchases and there is nothing there. In my history of purchases it shows reciepts of my purchases. What do I do?

    Downloading (using iOS or computer) past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not all media formats are available in all countries (see: iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match Availability by Country - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085); apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this).  Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later.  Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list (e.g., ringtones, audiobooks), or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.  Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.


    Select the iTunes Store on the left side of iTunes.
    Click on Purchased on the right side under Quick Links.
    You can re-download your available previous purchases.

    How is this legal? If I have proof of purchase, itune should accomadate. Are they fixing this problem? What is the solution?

    Have you not got backup copies of your original downloads of them ? Audiobooks are supplied to Apple by audible.com and I believe that it is them who are requiring the one-time only download of them. You should maintain your own backups of all your iTunes purchases, as even if it were possible to re-download them there is no guarantee that they will remain in the store for future re-downloading (content providers occasionally remove their content). If you no longer have a copies of them then you can try contacting iTunes support and see if they will grant you a re-download (assuming that they are still available in the store) : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

    Why isn't it legal?  You bought the audiobooks and downloaded them.  After that it is your responsibility.  Would you expect an artist at a concert who sold you a physical CD  to supply you with a second CD if you damaged the one they gave you when you first bought it?


    The solution is to make a backup of all your files.  Some day your hard drive will fail.  Apple does not guarantee to maintain a second download on all its items.  A distributor could decide tomorrow to revoke its permission to do so and then you would have no source other than a backup.

    Good advice on the backups, but I think the comparison with the physical CD is slightly misplaced. First and foremost, as someone commented above, the audiobooks are supplied by Audible. If you buy from Audible themselves, you have an online library, which you can re-download from whenever you like. It is not unreasonable to assume that Apple would be allowed to provide the same service, as they are acting as a conduit for Audible sales.


    Secondly, if re-downloading of almost everything else is allowed (including music), then why not the books? The "purchased" section looks very much like it should be offering them and doesn't.


    So, no, I don't think Hilda's question is unreasonable. When there is an unlevel playing field, it should be pointed out.


    The fact that Apple do not make this clear, with say, "a nice simple message", is indicative of poor support in this area. The way the cloud is described by marketing, gives the impression that all your purchases are backed up. People shouldn't have to go searching through support FAQs and forums to find out differently.


    Happily for me, I have always backed up my audiobooks (like everything else on my PCs over the years), but it would be much easier to transfer them to new hardware if they were included the cloud. It's a shame they are not.

    Well said Rank_Outsider. I was able to download my audiobooks by disputing with itunes. All they needed was proof of purchase, which they should have a copy. Maybe they needed proof of person . Anyway, I'm happy to have my audiobooks back but not happy that I had to waste my time to prove my purchase.

    I download 2 audiobooks when away on my ipad (as not near my pc)... i now find out that i cant re-download them on by pc???? but i can with movies, songs and tv programmes...  apple are you joking...???? I pay more for your products for the customer service, I trust like Hilda Keller above is will recive the same treatment... thank you. Angus X.

    You need to contact itunes and prove your purchases. It's a waste of time, but that was the only way I was able to get my audiobooks back.

    Apple are not here, only fellow users. I believe that all audiobooks are supplied to Apple by audible.com, so I assume that it's them who are requiring the one-time only rule. If they are still on your iPad then you should be able to copy them from it by connecting it to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases (File > Devices > Transfer Purchases if you have iTunes 11 on your computer).

    I cannot believe this.  It's an outrage that $100's of dollars of books I've purchased are now no longer at my disposal.  Backing up is one thing - but when your computer completely fails to start and you hadn't a chance to back up recent purchases from your iphone to your home computer before this happened - it's madness that I'm not able to access them again.

    Unfortunately, Amazon bought Audible and they probably don't allow Apple to store the audiobook content which is why you have to go to Apple and ask them to regrant a download of the content if it is available.


    Like others have suggested in this thread - backup your content. I've gotten burned by this with movies I've purchased. They are no longer available in the iTunes Store so I can't go download them again.

    I'm dealing with a similar situation... Been listening to all the Star Wars audiobooks... Its really weird that you can go back to purchased every other category except audiobooks... I will be calling itunes tomorrow to get my purchases... I bought the books on my iphone but had to make room for more books, when I tried to download the books I just recently deleted they had completely vanished and are nowhere to be found... I like audible.com to use for audiobooks but I have noticed that sometimes it is cheaper on audible sometimes and cheaper on itunes sometimes... Why not make them the same freaking price if they use the same books?  If this was the case I would just use audible but I've saved up to 5-6 bucks sometimes picking and choosing from the different sites... But the only thing I have noticed that kinda ticked me off was that I started listening to Star Wars: Jedi Academy Trilogy and Itunes only had the first 2 books.  : (  Which was ********...  This is when I had to discover audible and I loved it but then I noticed the price differences sometimes...  It's weird but I will be getting all my emailed Itunes Receipts in order and calling Apple support so that I can get my audiobooks again... Hope yall get it working as well...

    If they had an infinite supply of CDs which cost them nothing in the way of time, money or effort to replace, and all the other merchandise they sold came with a replacement guarantee then yes, I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for it.
