Q: migrate from lion server

I posted this in Lion server but since I havent had any responses in 4 weeks here it is again.

I just want to check the proceedure for lion server upgrade to ML. (clean install)

  1. Clone Lion server.
  2. install ML from USB stick after reformating drive
  3. Download and update ML
  4. Download and install ML server
  5. Migrate from clone

I have looked but can't see any ML migration manuals. Does anyone have a link?

thanks

    John -

I'm faced with the specter of doing this right now.  Trying to determine the best path - Lion Server strait to Mavericks Server or Lion Server to ML Server first.  At any rate how did your upgrade process go?  I'm thinking that the ML Server may be the best iterative step first.  Thanks...

Don't, it is nothing but hassle, Steve would be going mad if he was still with us, what are you doing to the company Tim?

I spoke to an enterprise Apple tech the other day who assured me it's as simple as:

    1) Mirroring the drive and running a Time Machine backup (a given).

    2) Upgrading OS Lion to OS Mavericks

    3) Upgrade Lion Server to OS X Server

In fact he mentioned that "they've seen very few problems"...

Is this the path you took and if so, what problems did you encounter if I may.  Thanks.

Hmm, yes they are right in theory, my list is,

1 network users not able to login, somewhat fundamental

2 error 32 when copying files to the server from the client, ie you can't, ditto

    3 VPN issues

    4 stability issues

    5 corrupt profiles

6 four total rebuilds as it trashed my directory

    7 NAS issues

8 major changes to the server config that take some working out ie server naming etc

These are the main issues that I have had issues with, Apple refunded my purchase of server but they have still not fixed some of the issues.  The latest is the error 32 not being able to copy files, windows to mac is fine but not mac to mac.  Smb2 is at fault.  Why it takes this long to fix issues, who knows.

Read the server threads any you will get a flavour! It simply doesn't work out of the box like the last version
