Format of pictures

What format are pictures saved as on the ipad?

Is there a way to convert them?

Those that you take with the iPad are jpegs : 5 megapixel (2592 * 1936) on the back camera, 0.3 (640 * 480) on the front. Screenshots are saved as 3.1 megapixel .PNG files (2048 * 1536). If you copy photos to the iPad with the camera connection kit then they will be in the format that your camera uses - they aren't converted or edited when using the kit.

There are apps that allow you to see a photo's size e.g. the iPhoto app shows you the dimensions, type (jpeg, PNG etc) and size, as does PhotoMeta and Photo Manager Pro - there are probably others as well.


I haven't got any apps that do re-sizing, but doing a search for 'image resize' appears to find some e.g. iResize and Photogene For iPad may do it (I haven't had a proper look at their functionality).
