Cannot open an App from a download Security block

I have an Escort Radar Detector and they now have a MAC APP version to download updates.

Previously I had to use a PC.

When I try to open the Downloaded Application it shows the following:

Escort detector tools can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developers

Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers.

What do I need to do to accept this, I looked in system Preps but nothing looked like it was applicable to an unlock of an app.

Thanks

System Preferences > Security General > "Allow applications downloaded from..."

I would not recommend changing that setting, as it significantly reduces security on your machine. Instead, do what markwmsn recommended... after you open it that way the first time, the quarantine flag will be cleared and the app will be considered "trusted," so you can open it normally from then on. Must better to just allow a specific app in this manner than to change the setting to allow all apps!

Yeah, I didn't know that either for a while... kind of embarrassing when I got schooled on the topic by a relatively new forum member! 😁 That feature was not very well documented initially, but at this point you can find that recommendation here:

Look at the end of the section titled "Gatekeeper gives you more control over what you install."
