Does using iTunes match free up storage space on my iPad?

I am running out of storage on my iPad. The largest application is Music using over 3 Gbytes. If I upload my music to iCloud using iTunes Match will it free up the storage on my iPad?

iPad, iOS 5.1

Yes, if you choose to delete the music synced on your iPad. However, once you do that you may only play from iTunes Match when you have an active internet connection because first a track must be downloaded to the iPad before it can be played. No internet connection, no music.

You can, however, have both. You can choose to keep your music on the iPad or you can choose to reduce what's stored on the iPad and use Match for the rest.
