iPad Charger

I have an iPad 3 and a iPhone 4S. Am I able to charge the iPad using the iPhone plugin and vice versa without damaging the units?

Theoretically yes, however the iPhone charger gives out half the power of the iPad one. So if I were traveling light and only brought one, bring the iPad charger and leave the iPhone one at home. iPad charger is 10W, the iPhone 5W. The iPad one scales down quite well and will charge your phone faster and jsut as safe as its original one while the iPhone charger will charge your iPad, but you'll see the 'not charging' warning and it'll take longer since the iPhone charger isn't as powerful as the iPad one.

So yes, no damage, circuts will turn off when the batteries are full, but go with the iPad charger not the iPhone one.

This article says:

iPhone and iPod: Using the iPad 10W USB Power Adapter

While designed for use with the iPad, you can use the iPad 10W USB Power Adapter to charge all iPhone and iPod models by connecting them using a Dock Connector to USB cable.

The article doesn't say any thing about charging an iPad with an iPhone charger.

I did a Google search, and was unable to come up with a definite answer.

I have read a number of discussions that say:

  1. It will give an error message if you try to charge an iPad with an iPhone charger.
  2. It will take an extremely long time to charge.
  3. It will NOT charge at all.

I am not sure which one of these is correct, as I currently don't have an iPhone.
